All Yahoo email accounts will be scanned starting Monday

If you avoided Gmail and stuck with Yahoo mail for the sake of privacy concerns, it’s time to find a new provider. Starting Monday, June 3, classic email will be discontinued and users will have to accept the new terms of service that require that content of all emails are scanned.

According to the new terms of service, Yahoo must be given permission to “scan and analyze all incoming and outgoing communications content sent and received from your account.” It’s for the ads, of course, but they’re hiding it behind the guise of spam and malware protection. Users will be allowed to opt out of the targeted advertising, but their emails will be scanned regardless.

According to Techcrunch:

Some are labeling the switch an aggressive invasion of privacy. An anonymous Jottit user writes: “Yahoo can now openly troll through email for personal information that it can share or hold onto indefinitely. Gay and haven’t come out yet? Yahoo knows…”

It seems like more of the same from all of the major internet companies.

  1. What idiots. They’re barely surviving and they go and attack their users. Really not in the position to be infringing on people. Their services are mediocre; I wouldn’t miss them. I suspect a drop in their stock.
