Apple bought biometrics firm AuthenTec in 2012 for $356 million. Since then, the Cupertino, Calif.-based technology giant filed new patents to suggest a sensor could sit behind or near to the home button. Developers also found similar code and application hooks in a recent beta of iOS 7, which will run on the next-generation iPhone.
