Xiaomi has unveiled its next-generation smart televisions

Remember last week when Xiaomi teased an announcement for the successor to its Mi TV line of smart televisions? Well the announcement is here and it’s better than we expected, and we expected quite a lot. There are two versions, both of which are incredibly appealing to the eye and even more so to the wallet. The 49-inch Mi TV 2 gives you everything a regular smart television would, as well as a 4K display, all for the stupidly low price of $640 while the 40-inch full-HD version goes for half as much.

Xiaomi teased last week that it would be announcing a new model in its Mi TV lineup, with the vendor today unveiling a new variant of the Mi TV 2 that features a 40-inch full-HD display. In terms of hardware, the full-HD version of the Mi TV 2 comes with a Sharp SDP X-GEN LED backlit panel that offers a contrast ratio of 5000:1. The TV is powered by an MStar 6A908 SoC that includes a quad-core Cortex A9 CPU and Mali 450 M4 GPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB internal memory and Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound technology. The frame is 14.5mm at its thinnest, and the inclusion of an H.265 10-bit hardware decoder means that the TV supports playback of formats such as MKV, MP4, MOV, TS, AVI and more. The software side of things is powered by MIUI atop Android 4.4 KitKat, with an update to Android 5.0 slated for later.
