As celebs became aware of the great power that the almighty Twitter social networking platform encompasses, they jumped on it like Tiger Woods on a waitress. After Ashton Kutcher (love him or hate him) defeated CNN in his challenge to see who could reach one million Twitter followers first, tweeting became an integral part of celebrity life.

Gaining new fans and connecting with existing followers on a personal basis, it would soon come to light that all was not well in Hollywood. In 2009, we got a taste of what celebrities were really thinking when the cameras were off, and were treated to some epic drama and bickering between them.

Amongst the four billion tweets that Twitter has reportedly processed this year thus far, we’ve already been given a few golden nuggets of astronomical FAIL in the area of celebrity tweets.

Here are the top five celebrity fails so far in 2010:

1. Scott Baio Gives Back To The Underprivileged

scott baio

@thescottbaio Taxes are DONE…That should feed, house & provide medical for a few lazy non working people at my expense. Have a great Monday!

Scott Baio, like Wesley Snipes, was not too thrilled to be paying taxes this year. Baio, however, decided to live up to his reputation of being a model citizen by going ahead and paying what was owed. Citizens of America affected by the economic meltdown can sleep easy knowing that Baio’s got them covered in the areas of food, housing, and healthcare. Thanks, Scott!

2. Ryan Seacrest Trolls American Idol Fans Worldwide

ryan seacrest

@ryanseacrest Packed radio show tomorrow…got tonight’s voted-off idol lacey brown, @orianthi, @thedavidcook, & dakota fanning with deets on ‘Eclipse’

When Ryan saw the soaring network ratings of American Idol on Fox, he decided to take matters into his own hands and put the ratings right back where they belong. How would he accomplish this? By tweeting the eliminated contested of the night’s show… 17 minutes prior to its airing on the west coast. With over three million followers receiving the message, this marked the show’s all-time lowest viewership. Great job!

3. Gilbert Arenas Seals His Own Fate

gilbert arenas

@gilbertarenas i wake up this morning and seen i was the new JOHN WAYNE. lmao media is too funny.

Following the situation involving Arenas bringing firearms into the Washington Wizards locker room, Gilbert wasn’t all that apologetic. In fact, he seemed somewhat shocked when the media swarmed all over the situation. In what was sure to be a busy week for Gilbert’s PR guy, Arenas tweeted his amusement with the whole ordeal, dubbing himself “the new John Wayne.” Later, Arenas did himself a favor and deleted his Twitter account. Cowboy up Arenas, you’ll only be in the halfway house for 30 days.

4. Kim Kardashian Abuses Kittens

@kimkardashian http://twitpic.com/1gpmua – Pic from my shoot yesterday…good kitty cat!

Apparently Kim Kardashian isn’t a big fan of Caturday. In a picture posted to her Twitter on April 19th, Kim holds a distressed kitten in the air to the dismay of cat lovers around the world. While I do have to say that she was looking mighty good while doing so, I cannot support this blatant disrespect for the internet and our love for cats. Shame on you Kim.

5. Ricky Gervais Doesn’t Understand Twitter

ricky gervais

@rickygervais I am sorry, but I am going to stop these tweets because I don’t see the point. Please follow my blog at rickygervais.com

After using Twitter for less than a month, Gervais had enough. Really? C’mon Ricky! I’ve seen all of the episodes of The Office like 50 times. You’re a sharp, witty, intelligent guy… seriously, one hell of an actor. This leaves me in awe of the fact that you don’t understand or see the point of Twitter. I, like many of your fans, really do not care enough about you to read your blog. Sorry bud, but this is pure FAIL.
