See WeChat’s ridiculous success described in a series of charts

It’s been four years since WeChat launched and to celebrate, Tencent Tech has released a collection of slides named “WeChat’s Impact: Inaugural Report on WeChat Platform Data” that shows some crazy statistics about the app’s popularity. The data, which was taken from extensive surveys that the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology over the course of 2014, gives us clue as to why messaging services have become so insanely popular over the past couple of years.

To celebrate the fourth anniversary of WeChat’s launch, Tencent Tech shared a 38-slide deck on January 27, 2015 titled “WeChat’s Impact: Inaugural Report on WeChat Platform Data” (our translation). The report boasts some impressive statistics, most of them pulled from extensive survey data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology over the last year. Some of the highlights include: 1) 55.2% of users open WeChat more than 10 times a day. 2) In the last year, WeChat users consumed US$15.3B worth of mobile data. 3) Several WeChat Official Accounts have revenue in excess of US$1M. Please note the report only includes data from Chinese users and official accounts. In translating the deck, we tried to be as true as possible to the original data and format. Enjoy!
