Polaroid Socialmatic combines a camera and a printer into one

Polaroid continues to maintain its iconic image of shoot and print cameras (made by manufacturer Sakar), all while continuing to innovate by using new technologies that straddle digital and the printed image. The newest camera, introduced at the 2014 International CES, adds social elements via Android-powered Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.

The days of shaking a Polaroid picture as it develops are long gone, but the camera and film company itself is continuing to modernize. The company officially unveiled its Polaroid Socialmatic camera on Monday. The new camera is currently on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and is expected to arrive in stores this fall. “Polaroid was the original social network: allowing people to instantly capture, print and share life’s moments in a way that had never been possible before,” said Polaroid CEO Scott W. Hardy in a statement. “This relationship with [design company] Socialmatic allows Polaroid to come full circle and once again allow people to capture and share images.”
