Mulally’s denial about Microsoft isn’t categorical

There’s a difference between saying, “I’m staying at Ford” and having “nothing new to add to plans to continue serving Ford.” While some see Ford CEO Alan Mulally’s words as a flat denial, it isn’t. It’s an easy way of saying that, as of today, he’s still Ford’s CEO. When he has something new to add about his future, we’ll hear it from Microsoft or Ford, not from Mulally himself.

Despite resurfaced rumors that he is on the very short list to replace outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer at Microsoft, Ford CEO Alan Mulally maintains that that is not in his plans.

“I love serving Ford and have nothing new to add to (my) plans to continue serving Ford,” he said in an exclusive interview with USA TODAY.
