Meerkat now allows users to stream from their GoPro

It’s definitely not a partnership that I ever expected, but the more I think about it the more genius it seems. Meerkat has announced that users can now use the live streaming service on their GoPro, a move which gives the app a significant edge against its primary competitor, Periscope. Now you’ll get to see all that action cam badassery and drone footage that everyone loves so much in real time.

Streaming video app Meerkat will now allow some GoPro owners to stream directly from their cameras—the first time Meerkat has extended the ability to broadcast beyond a mobile device. GoPro3 owners (and with the next app update, GoPro4 owners) can connect their cameras to their iOS devices and then open the Meerkat app to start live streaming, Meerkat said. This is the latest move as Meerkat and rival Periscope step up their battle for the next frontier of video. It’s the latest in a series of announcements for Meerkat, including the ability to connect to Facebook profiles, and “Cameo,” the ability for users to switch their live stream over to someone else, for a brief cameo. Meerkat made the announcement at VidCon, the online video creators conference, where it was first reported by CNBC.
