Jobs Huffed and Puffed and Blew His House Down

Steve really hates his house – in fact, he’s been meaning to tear it down for years. Does this make him a crazy person? Don’t answer that.

Steve has, however, just received word that all systems are go: the red tape preventing Jobs from bulldozing his Woodside, California home has been cleared, and at his leisure, plans for his dream ‘iHome’ (more like iPad, am I right? Right?) can commence.

Reminiscin’ of the wildstyle, ’04: upon Jobs getting permission to end his home, Woodside preservationalists created a group, ‘Uphold Our Heritage’, committed to saving the residence from certain iDoom. What heritage? No, not that STEVE JOBS HIMSELF has lived in the house – though to some, arguably that would be reason enough on its own – but that the house was originally built for copper mining giant Daniel Cowan Jackling by architect George Washington Smith in 1925. Yeah, it’s got a little bit of history, and the UOH sued Woodside and Jobs, also filing an appeal against the decision.

But you can’t stop Steve’s bum rush. On July 19th, the UOH dropped its appeal after Jobs failed to reply to a proposal to move the old house to another site. It’s death or nothing. Steve must really, really hate this house, guys.

But it’s not all bad news for the House the Jobs Forgot. Almanac News reports that “the town has hired architectural historian Michael R. Corbett to conduct an inventory of historically significant parts of the house. Preserving these items for posterity is a key condition of the demolition permit issued by the town in 2009.” Score one for the house, I guess.

I fully expect Job’s new house will look not unlike a sleek little Apple TV sitting on that hill.

What do you think?
