iPhone 4 users will not be receiving the upcoming iOS 8 update

1 min read

Apple officially announced iOS 8 today with a ton of new features, including HealthKit, better notifications and improved iMessages. Many users can look forward to the update coming at some point this fall, but iPhone 4 users will be left behind. Apple didn’t mention which devices would be compatible with iOS 8 during the keynote, but they left a quick note about it toward the bottom of the iOS 8 press release, mentioning that the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display would all be eligible to receive the iOS 8 update.

So earlier today Apple announced iOS 8. Was it the iOS update that iOS users have been waiting for? Perhaps. Apple introduced a host of changes and new features that didn’t feel groundbreaking, but at the same time afforded users a lot of conveniences. Perhaps that might be more important for some users than having to have new and epic features everytime, right? That being said, if you were hoping to get your hands on iOS 8, you might be interested to learn that the minimum requirements you are expected to have is an iPhone 4S. This is according to the iOS 8 page on Apple’s website which states that iOS 8 will only be compatible with the iPhone 4S and above, so iPhone 4 users are out of luck. As for other devices, iOS 8 will only play nicely with the iPod touch 5th gen. For iPad users, you will be pleased to learn that iOS 8 will be compatible with the iPad 2 and above, which is surprising given that the iPad 2 is pretty old, although we have to wonder if the changes and features that Apple introduced will be slow/laggy on such an old device, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
