After serving as the CFO of Google for seven years, Patrick Pichette announced today that he will be retiring from the company. The reasons for his retirement are pretty typical, with Pichette citing a desire to spend more time with his family as his primary motivation. The official retirement date isn’t know yet but Google is already looking for a replacement and Pichette will have to bring him or her up to speed.

The change was first spotted in an SEC filing and Pichette soon followed up with an announcement on Google Plus. In the announcement, Pichette, who has been with Google since 2008, explained the reasons behind his retirement. Says Pichette: “After nearly 7 years as CFO, I will be retiring from Google to spend more time with my family. Yeah, I know you’ve heard that line before. We give a lot to our jobs. I certainly did. And while I am not looking for sympathy, I want to share my thought process because so many people struggle to strike the right balance between work and personal life.”
