Galaxy Gear successor rumored to come with curved, flexible display

The Galaxy Gear 2 will be significantly improved over the first generation, according to ZDNet Korea, as Samsung takes a second try in the wearables market.  The publication reports the smartwatch will feature a curved display, similar to the flexible OLED found on the curved Galaxy Round smartphone. Furthermore, the design is said to match the curviness, which we assume will make it more comfortable on the wrist than the first generation’s bulky design.

The successor to the Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch could be launched in March or April at a London event, according to a report. The smart watch is also said to have a curved or flexible OLED screen, instead of the original’s 1.6-inch AMOLED version, along with a new updated design that could help Samsung gain more acceptance in the wearable devices market. The suggested timing of the launch by ZDNet Korea’s source could lead to a joint launch alongside the Galaxy S 5, that is if Samsung chooses not to launch the smartphone at Mobile World Congress next month. While little else is known about the Galaxy Gear 2 itself, its existence has been confirmed not only in an interview with Samsung’s executive vice president of mobile business Lee Young, but also in a secondary pre-CES teaser image on the Samsung UK Twitter feed.
