154928 baby laptop 180According to computer security firm AVG, 73% of kids under the age of 2 have an online presence of some kind.

Obviously these aren’t child geniuses who have figured out how to bypass the Windows login window, but insipid new parents who think it’s cute that their toddler has an email address.

Additionally, 5% of kids have a social networking profile somewhere.

AVG says it’s important that parents understand the implications of posting their children’s most private pictures and data online, other than the problem of being extremely annoying.

“First of all, you are creating a digital history for a human being that will follow him or her around for the rest of their life. What kind of footprint do you actually want to start for your child, and what will they think about the information you’ve uploaded in future?” said JR Smith, CEO of AVG.

He also notes that parents may not be aware of the privacy options on social networks, meaning the pictures may spread further than friends and family.

So beware parents, not only are you irritating your single friends, but you may be placing your child in danger or risking their chance of getting a job 20 years down the line.
