Dota 2 has raised a record-breaking $16.6 million prize pool

Many gamers could argue for hours about which MOBA is better, Dota 2 or League of Legends, but one thing that Dota 2 undeniably has over League of Legends is its ability to raise a massive prize pool for its official tournament. Known as The International, this year’s Dota 2 tournament has set yet another eSports record by amassing a prize pool of nearly $16.6 million.

This year’s The International Dota 2 tournament pool has hit almost $16.6 million. Along with announcing the huge prize pool, which keeps growing, Valve also sent word that viewing parties will be held in over 400 movie theaters across the US. Those interested in attending the viewing parties may find information and purchase tickets via Fathom Events. New Secret Shop merchandise has also been revealed and TI5 ticket holders can now place preorders on Secret Shop items for pickup at The International. Online orders will be made available to the general public two weeks after TI5 concludes. Earlier this month, the Dota 2 International prize pool hit its final $15 million stretch goal, which unlocked the Special Axe Immortal and Longform Comic.
