AT&T slashes prices for family wireless data plans and simplifies them

33 sec read

Is AT&T feeling heat from T-Mobile’s “un-carrier” moves? I think so, but you be the judge: AT&T just announced new family plans that are both simpler to understand and less expensive. The carrier introduced the new plans on Saturday, saying they’re available starting today.

AT&T T -0.09% is aggressively cutting prices on some family wireless data plans, under pressure to add more customers as rivals become more competitive. The new prices, effective Sunday, will let a family share 10 gigabytes of data among four smartphones for $160 a month—20% less than AT&T had previously charged. The same plan at Verizon Wireless would cost $100 more. Sprint Corp. S -1.43%charges $160 for a four-person plan that delivers one gigabyte of data with an option to add more per line. T-Mobile US Inc. TMUS -0.52% offers a plan that gives four smartphone users 2 gigabytes of data apiece for $140 a month.
