AdBlock Plus is working on its own mobile web browser

AdBlock, or some derivative of it, has always been a must-have extension for desktop web browsers, but blocking ads on mobile devices has always been a bit harder. That’s where the team behind AdBlock Plus thinks it can be of assistance, as it’s currently working on its own web browser for Android that will use the chromium rendering engine.

Eyeo, the creator of AdBlock Plus, had previously been rumored to be creating a web browser for iOS, but nothing ever came to fruition. The company had promised to bring better ad blocking to mobile devices and have achieved this with the AdBlock Plus apps that are available for mobile devices, and are extremely popular with millions of downloads. Now if a report is to be believed, AdBlock Plus is going all out with its own web browser on Android for release on Wednesday May 20th, and as with most custom web browsers today, the browser is expected to use the chromium rendering engine. Other details about the browser are sparse but we will be keeping a very close eye on this one and will report any details and features this new browser may have. AdBlock Plus has had extensions for Firefox and Chrome for quite a while now, and as previously reported, is also available for Internet Explorer. However, the company came under fire two years ago when it came to light that Google were paying the company to whitelist their own ads.
