You no longer need an invite to purchase the OnePlus 2

OnePlus has made it painfully clear that all of its new smartphone will use its universally loathed invite system for the foreseeable future, but it’s never permanent. A few months after the OnePlus One was launched, the company removed the invite system entirely, and starting tomorrow, the company will be doing the same thing with the OnePlus 2. This isn’t one of those invite-free windows the company opens from time to time, this is a permanent removal. Unfortunately, this only applies to the OnePlus 2, so you’ll still need an invite to purchase the OnePlus X.

Don’t get too excited: OnePlus isn’t ditching its invite system entirely. However, the company announced today that it has officially dropped invites for the OnePlus 2. Starting Dec. 5, you’ll be able to buy the smartphone as soon as you want to get it—no waiting around for an invite from OnePlus or a OnePlus 2-owning friend. “The invite system has been crucial to letting us scale our operations and has given our fans a unique way to share OnePlus with the people in their lives. But we are always trying to enhance the OnePlus experience for you and taking risks to push ourselves and show real improvements. That’s why we’re making the OnePlus 2 invite-free…forever,” OnePlus said in a forum post. “That’s right; you’ll never again need an invite to purchase the OnePlus 2. We’re proud to be able to make the OnePlus 2 invite-free so soon and hope this will make getting your very own OnePlus 2 a cheerfully easy experience.”
