Sharp’s new 4K screen has an insane 806ppi pixel density

Smartphone manufacturers are always looking to pack more pixels-per-inch than their competitors, with Samsung already hinting that a smartphone with a 4K display could arrive as early as this year. Now Sharp has unveiled its own 5.5-inch IGZO 4K display that has a ridiculous pixel density of 806ppi, this is compared to the 577ppi that the Galaxy S6 packs and the 441ppi that the One M9 has.

Now that QHD displays are here, manufacturers will undoubtedly be looking to offer screens that offer even more pixels per inch. Samsung has hinted at launching a handset with a 4K display in 2015, and now Sharp has unveiled its 5.5-inch IGZO 4K panel that offers a pixel density of 806ppi. For comparison, the Galaxy S6’s 5.1-inch QHD screen — which is one of the best currently available — has a pixel density of 577ppi, while HTC’s One M9 with its 5-inch full-HD display offers 441ppi. One interesting use case for 4K panels would be virtual reality, wherein the high resolution displays will be able to deliver an immersive experience when paired with a headset. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a 5.5-inch phone with a 4K display?
