PS4 and Xbox One consume three times as much energy as their predecessors

According to the National Resources Defense Council’s detailed findings, both the PS4 and Xbox One use around three times as much power as their predecessors. Considering that the previous generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles used up to five times as much energy as a refrigerator, it’s hard to believe that such small devices can consume so much energy.

Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles are pretty sweet entertainment boxes. But if you’re lucky enough to have a shiny new PS4 or Xbox One, be prepared for a larger electricity bill. When the PlayStation 3 launched way back in 2007, there were fearmongers who freaked out because the console used up to five times as much energy as a refrigerator.
