The growth of mobile

Four out of every five people in the world now have a mobile phone, and 84 percent can’t go a single day without their phone. A little less than half of Americans say they can’t even go a few hours without checking their mobile phones. One in four people check their phone every 30 minutes, which is a lot of checking when you consider that there were 5 billion mobile phones in the world in 2012 and 1.8 billion were smartphones.

Facebook now reaches 76 percent of the smartphone market, and it accounts for 23 percent of total time spent using apps each month. The next five most used applications are Google apps, and they account for 10 percent of app usage time. Smartphones are becoming less touchy, more sensitive, and more flexible. Collecting data can create a safer and healthier global community. Kenya is using mobile data to track malaria and other illnesses.

Our wardrobe is also getting smarter these days. Google Glass is beaming-up maps and directions. Smart shoes can calculate distance, underfoot conditions, and analyze gait. Apple recently received 22 patents, which would allow them to produce wearable technology such as sneakers, shirts, skiing gear, and watches.
