Are you ready for Myspace 3.0?

MySpace

MySpace

The last time anybody had heard about Myspace, it was most likely the punch line of some social media joke. But that’s about to change because Myspace has re-launched itself into the social media world… again.

Myspace is no longer the awkward social media site that fell by the wayside the minute Facebook took a breath. In fact, Myspace isn’t even showing its teeth to Facebook anymore. Reborn a few months ago, the new Myspace focuses on music and has the potential to send Pandora and Spotify running for the hills. Yep! “Myspace 3.0” is a must-see for all music lovers.

Re-launched last week, the social media site is meant to give users an all-access pass to new music and musicians. When I heard about the launch, I took to the site and started experimenting. For the first time in my life, I actually enjoyed being on Myspace and felt enriched from the experience. The new Myspace is simply a blast that will bring any and every music lover to eternal bliss.

From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., I examined every inch of Myspace and tested every feature. After some intense song play, I found that the website had interesting shares/links, artist information, the ability to manage a personal mix of music, and, the most important thing, only two run-ins with advertisements. For six and a half hours I listened to hundreds of songs with only two 15-second ads interrupting me. And they weren’t even torturous.

Myspace could be considered a social iTunes that lets you listen to full songs and albums without purchase. Of course, you cannot download the music, but that doesn’t matter here. Myspace is a complete catalog of music that starts at the user’s fingertips. I searched everything from Dave Matthews Band to Hans Zimmer’s compositions. I had access to everything. Plus, everything you listen to or view on the site doesn’t disappear when you navigate the site. Myspace has a player bar on the bottom of the screen that keeps all your music and playlists open so you can play around and never miss a single song.

The site enables users to live a social media life through music. Users can still posts and upload photos like any other site. You can also access other pages by “connecting” to them. “Connecting” to a page is somewhat equal to a Facebook “like.”

I could ramble on and on about the powerful fun that Myspace has to offer to individual users and social media agencies. However, the only way to understand it is to fully experience it. I urge everyone to get on Myspace and start exploring the endless amounts of music. It is a very valuable site that, if marketed properly, will explode onto the social media scene as an entertainment king that shall not be messed with. I for one am excited to see this site grow and watch the world react to the new life of Myspace.

What do you think?

  1. Uhm, no. It’s bullshit. Just another update where you can’t figure out what the hell is going on anymore. I can’t even find where my mailbox was..I hope they didn’t delete my precious emails. I can’t look through anyone’s pics. Absolutely lame. They did it again, another big fail.

  2. I totally agree, with what you said about MySpace. The whole new update that the site had under gone, just recently is complete total bullshit!!
And just about everyone, back at MySpace including myself are complaining about the myspace latest new “upgrade”. Everything is too hard to use and navigate around. And they fucked up my profile, and all my pictures and including everything that I had worked on, is all gone.. And including my blogs, personal messages that I had saved for a reason gone.. I Don’t know if myspace, will ever finally listens to us users and bring back the old features? :/

  3. Myspace stole my friends and messages and my old profile i built. They will never regain what they lost to facebook no matter what as for music and new bands soundcloud is the way to go. Its for the pros. And youtube will never die

  4. I understand that with the dark alley that old-Myspace had wilted into, there was obvious need for a major renovation. However, I find that with any project, the first thing you do is plan it out. This revamp seems far too unorganized to believe that anyone had stopped for a second to check if the water was turned off before pulling out the pipes. Those last stragglers left on Myspace used it for more than a social network – they used it as a personal webpage, felt devoted enough to put time and effort into it rather than just clicking a “share” button, as you would find on competing sites. Many of these loyal members poured their soul into the safety off a forgotten niche of the Internet.

It seems that without thought, Myspace went ahead and deleted the content of those members. No notice, no warning, not even a quick heads up. With a failing market, the least they could have done for the thirteen people that still hung out at Myspace was give them a chance to save their intellectual property.

Well thought out plans always seem to fall short with Myspace – no matter who is managing the site. Although, aside from an obscure layout and labyrinth of accessibility, I was intrigued by the change. It seems they would like it to be more useful for those aspiring musicians. Realistically though, any one relying on Myspace to have a solid foundation and remain stable, be warned. At any given point and time you should have a back up of any and all information that you entrusted on the site. That includes messages, arrangements, dates, pictures, blogs, contacts…. Well, just about anything I suppose.

Good luck Myspace. You lost my vote.

  5. To the three noobs above, V3.0 of Myspace is a brand new website. brand new interface. brand new system. It has been in beta for months. The old Myspace is gone. forever. you had plenty of time to save all of your old junk. Get with the times. Myspace is not a social network any more. Its a music engine. With some social media capacity.

  6. Wow I am so surprised by all of the feedback to this article and I am so excited to see it. I would first off like to thank you all for reading and sharing/responding to the blog. I really love hearing from users and readers. Now I would also like to disconnect myself from myspace and firmly state that I DO NOT WORK for Myspace or have any ties with them that would make this article benefit me in any way. I am simply an intern at a Digital Marketing Firm and I found this new Myspace interesting so I wrote about it. Having said that I do want to acknowledge that perhaps the reason I am enjoying the new myspace so much is because I never had a previous account. So I never lost any information or had to deal with that annoyance. That must be frustrating so I totally understand why people would not be too happy with the new site. Oh and DELAPORTE what exactly do you mean by your post? Thanks again for all of the feedback. Hope you all have a great day!

    Sincerely, Cristian

  7. Yes, I bet new users will like it. I also bet that not enough new people will sign up to try it because of myspace’s reputation. Without users it will flop. Old users won’t say anything good about it and they will delete their accounts. We’ll see how it pans out.

  8. Old user will delete their accounts? Myspace will never comeback? If you’re using it just because you want to fit in lol then you’re a tool. And myspace doesn’t need people like you. I’m glad Myspace is still around. I use it, love it. As for facebook lol pass.
